Will strip for free clothes!

The term 50% off took on new meaning in Madrid this week. Semi-naked shoppers lined up at the retail store Desigual for an unusual promotion where their cheekiness was rewarded with free clothes.

The event, which kicked off sale season, was outlined as such: be the first of 100 shoppers to arrive, strip down to your undies, and enter the store as doors open at 9am. Once inside the presumably cold Spaniards were invited to choose one outfit (one top and one bottom) which they could wear back out the door for free...or at rather for the price of sporting their skivvies in the open air.

I suppose with flash mobs losing their shock value and guerilla marketing techniques becoming more and more mainstream, retailers are desperate for a little attention. Desigual actually rolled out the publicity stunt already this summer to much success across North America, but somehow timing their Spanish version with Polar Bear Dips seems like an even bigger pitch to make national news.
